Sexual assault is a violation of your rights. Whether the sexual assault occurs at work, at school, or anywhere else, the people who commit and allow sexual assaults should be held accountable both criminally and civilly. One of the strongest ways to stop sexual assault is to obtain the largest verdict or settlement possible – to send a financial message that failing to protect employees and others from acts of sexual violence will never be tolerated.

At Buckley Bala Wilson Mew LLP, our Atlanta attorneys begin by reviewing your physical and emotional well-being. We work with doctors and psychologists to help ensure your health needs are being addressed. Our Atlanta sexual assault lawyers also work with the police if criminal charges are filed. We then proceed thoroughly and aggressively to hold employers and other responsible parties accountable civilly for the unconscionable harm that sexual assault causes.

This was my first time having to seek legal counsel on an employment issue so I was a bit nervous about the process. I was referred to Ed Buckley by a friend I respect and trust, and one that has over 20 years of experience in law. Mr. Buckley made the process much less intimidating for me. Many thanks to Mr. Buckley and team for helping me. I'd definitely hire them again. – Google review

How often does sexual assault occur in the workplace?

bbwmlaw-rule

An article published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine in 2019 reported the following:

In the U.S., 5.6% of women (almost 7 million) and 2.5% of men (nearly 3 million) reported some type of sexual violence by a workplace-related perpetrator…. For women, the most commonly reported sexual violence type was unwanted sexual contact (3.5% of women); for men, it was noncontact unwanted sexual experiences (1.3% of men). An estimated 1 million women (0.8%) have been raped by a workplace-related perpetrator. For women and men, fear was the most commonly reported impact of workplace-related sexual violence.

Sexual harassment and sexual assault can happen to women, men, and to members of the LBGTQIA community as well. According to Psychcentral.com, “Workplace sexual harassment often involves people with more power assaulting colleagues with less status, but it doesn’t always happen this way. Even when someone with less power harasses someone with more, the wish to have power over another is often a key reason.”
