Whistleblower Lawsuit Alleges CMO Was Terminated for Reporting Fraud
The chief medical officer of a large medical center in the southeast has just sued the hospital in a whistleblower lawsuit asserting that he fired after he testified about the hospital’s alleged improper admissions practices, patient safety concerns, and that it provided potentially fraudulent information to Medicare and Medicaid.
Several different whistleblower laws exist in order to protect individuals who report wrongdoing at their place of work. These laws cover a wide variety of concerns including reporting a company’s financial improprieties or securities violations, or its failure to follow safety guidelines. They also are designed to protect workers who identify potentially illegal company activity. No one should have to choose between reporting illegal activity and losing their job, or staying silent knowing that dangerous conditions or corrupt practices are going unchecked.
